Hokkien Words for Toothpick[edit]

@Justinrleung Hey, could you explain what you did for the terms here, especially for the character selection for Quanzhou, Zhangzhou, Xiamen. Not sure how you got them. And the preference also of 戳 over 拓. Thanks! --Mar vin kaiser (talk) 17:00, 2 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Mar vin kaiser: I'm basically following 臺灣閩南語常用詞辭典 on the character selection. This has a good explanation for 戳 over 拓. For Quanzhou, the pronunciation is thak, which doesn't seem to be the same word as thok - I'm not even sure why Min-Fang-Da treats them as the same word; other entries in Min-Fang-Da use 剔 (page 623). As for thuh, 臺灣閩南語常用詞辭典 seems to treat it as the vernacular reading of 黜, with one of the meanings being 用尖銳的東西戳刺. See this for an explanation for 黜. — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 00:50, 3 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
