how'd it go feminine?

do we know when and why French -eur "ness" switched from masculine to feminine ? —Soap— 22:13, 31 August 2020 (UTC)

I read somewhere that it was the influence of similar-sounding -ure. It alone does not convince me, but I'd add that other suffixes for abstract nouns like -(i)té and -esse are also feminine. This general analogy could have done it. (Maybe there's something else I'm not aware of). 82.82.152.162 14:50, 10 May 2024 (UTC)
