@Mårtensås, is this suffix attested elsewhere? Couldn't Arnhǫfði just be syncopated arn +‎ hǫfuð +‎ -i? – Sokkjō 08:56, 21 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

That is the etymology, yes, but hǫfði is pretty well attested in nicknames:
  • Bjarnhǫfði ‘bear-head’
  • Hesthǫfði ‘horse-head’
  • Hjarthǫfði ‘stag-head’
  • Hvíthǫfði ‘white-head’
  • Ketilhǫfði ‘kettle-head’
  • Svarthǫfði ‘black-head’
