Talk:Apollyon

There is but a single reference in the book of revelation claiming the greek god Apollyon (Apollo) to be synonymous with the Hebrew god of destruction Abbadon (From ABD, To Destroy, Literally "destroyer"). The consensus is that since the cult of Apollyon was popular at the time the book of revelation was authored, this is why the author would be motivated to subvert a popular religious deity. No justification in usage or pop-culture exists for this to account for the sole or primary definition of the word to point to such a source.
