Etymology[edit]

Wiki and a handful of (lazy?) scholarly articles mention derivation from a "Berber" "tutelary god" Auzius, which is obviously just the male form of the city's name in Latin. It's possible the name referred to a Berber god whose name was latinized as Auzius or that some Berber god used a similar epithet in his role as protector of the city. Seems just as likely that the name/epithet derived from the city itself or that someone misunderstood/overstated a source on Wiki (or just made shit up) and lazier scholars picked it up from there. — LlywelynII 08:52, 4 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
