Because of the request on the translation resquest page I decided to import this from the wikipedia article, I assume all the forms are plural 'brothers' or 'brethren' so I will not even attempt to add the translations in the table. Someone with at least same basic knowledge of the morphemes should have no problems I suppose. 81.68.255.36 11:18, 27 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Christadelphian

[edit]

An editor has expanded this quite a lot, and unfortunately not very well. I'm guess the translations are from Wikipedia, hence the 'please convert this to masculine singular' tags and the adjective needs citations as the two examples seem to be the noun used attributively. I think there's an argument to be made for rolling back to the last pre-User:In ictu oculi version. Mglovesfun (talk) 10:18, 25 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hello Mglovesfun, and folks. Thank you for your welcome. When an established user from normal old Wikipedia comes to Wiktionary good to have people willing to show the ropes. When I lighted on this Christadelphian entry there was {a) no adjective, and {b} only 2 translations (French and Norwegian marked 'please convert this to masculine singular') so everything else there now translationwise is new work, thanks for not rolling it back since do so and there won't be much of use translationwise left. As for the use (blacked out) of mpl entries (yes per std Wikipedia where possible) in the adjective box, bear in mind that in many if not most languages the structure "of-the-____s" is a normal alternative to an adjective. In fact for some of these languages the "of-the-____s" form is the only one that exists (in this particular case Christadelphians Dutch, Afrikaans, Armenian and Macedonian for example) so leaving a plural form blacked out in some of the adjective boxes is quite useful. To my mind, though I'm speaking as a drudgy translator, not as a glamorous lexicographer ;) In ictu oculi 11:16, 25 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
Unfortunately a day later, the translations are an awful, awful mess. I'm tempted to delete the lot and have only people who speak the languages concerned add translations. Mglovesfun (talk) 12:41, 26 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
Mg, "you're tempted to delete the lot and have only people who speak the languages concerned add translations."? I wouldn't claim to be fluent in all those languages but after 40 years of study I know enough to use grammars and dictionaries, and if you knew anything about half the languages concerned then you'd know they weren't an "awful, awful mess". They were (a) correct, and (b) they were in Wiktionary format as best I can go from zero to familiarity with a whole new set of wiki templates in 4 hours [after a full day's work] with someone being less than friendly at my back every 10 minutes. If you jump in midway while someone is in the process of editing something then of course you'll find some typos; (and btw I found being told that hindou isn't capitalized as an adjective in French was insulting, who do you think you are talking to?) Anyway;

I've deleted all my work

what's the point? There are other places where there's a more respectful collegiate environment. Thank you to the other Wiktionary admin. In ictu oculi 14:59, 26 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
I have no idea who you are. What's being insulting about saying hindou isn't capitalized in French? You copied the translations from Wikipedia, but Wikipedia always uses an uppercase first letter, while we do not. Explain how [[______]] is a valid Farsi translation, especially given we don't even call it Farsi, we call it Persian. 91.105.3.212 (Mglovesfun (talk)) 18:53, 26 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
