Official name[edit]

"Republic of Iceland" is not the official name. It's simply "Iceland". In the Icelandic constitution the republic Iceland is mentioned, which has caused this misunderstanding, but that isn't just a case of forgotten upper-case. It's simply referring to the fact that Iceland is a republic, "the republic Iceland", announcing in the constitution that Iceland is a republic. "Stjórnarskrá lýðveldisins Íslands" in Icelandic, which means "The constitution of the republic (state of?) Iceland". If no one objects I will change this in a week. — This unsigned comment was added by Leifurf (talkcontribs).

I’ve nominated Republic of Iceland for deletion (WT:Requests for deletion#Republic of Iceland). Can you comment? — Ungoliant (Falai) 19:57, 9 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
