Can't seem to find anyone glossing the name, aside from one unsourced site claiming it's from the Mongolian for 'big sheep'... but no Mongolian terms about sheep seem remotely similar. Apparently кулжа is Kyrgyz for male deer (although online dictionaries are Cyrillic/Cyrillic) & these guys think ХУЛЖ in other contexts is an unrelated Mongolian hydronym derived from Khitan. — LlywelynII 16:03, 3 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
