Offensive?

[edit]

@Gaioa I don't know if Långtbortistan has taken on additional connotations, but it always seemed innocuous to me. Here's some evidence of it being innocuous to others:

You can find examples of Långtbortistan being used disparagingly on Svenska dagstidningar, but when someone uses it to diss a distant country, it seems to me like using "Outer Mongolia" in the same way in English. The word is being used in a derogatory way without being inherently derogatory. I think those uses are too specialized to label the word itself as (usually) derogatory or offensive, like for "Outer Mongolia."

I grew up seeing Långtbortistan in Donald Duck comics and seeing and hearing it used (jokingly) outside of them. This Fandom page has more on Långtbortistan in case you didn't grow up with them. Alla tajders (talk) 10:00, 11 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Gaioa added that information without any sources/evidence. I, as a Swede, have not heard this being used as an ethnic slur. That's why I removed it. The editor thinks we should discuss it before removing it. I agree with Alla tajders above and also I think the burden of proof should be on Gaioa. Jiiimbooh (talk) 11:09, 13 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
I restored it now so it doesn't say ethnic slur. It's difficult to prove that it has never been used in an offensive way, but if it was commonly used that way it should be easy to find evidence of this. For example, it didn't take me long to find sources that blatte can be considered offensive: svenska.se. Jiiimbooh (talk) 09:02, 22 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
