Plural vs. singular[edit]

There are no organizations that define PFAS as "a per- or polyfluoroalkyl substance", it is always defined in the plural. As examples, US EPA, Canadian government , Australian PFAS Taskforce, UK Environment Agency.

Related, several organizations (e.g., US EPA, CDC, ITRC) have expressed that PFASs is not correct, while no organizations to my knowledge have expressed a preference for PFASs. Although it is in use in a minority of publications, I would contend that this is still nonstandard. 67.61.157.87 14:47, 14 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

We follow usage, not definitions by organizations. If it gets used in the singular, and with the plural PFASs (and PFAS), we document it as such. You can always add a usage note to explain the situation (X is preferred by organizations X,Y,Z) if you think it helps. – Jberkel 15:57, 14 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Fair. I'll add a note. 67.61.157.87 21:36, 14 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
