Südafrikanisches Englisch

Nobody cares about what WP has. But the official rules (currently and before 1996) seem ambiguous as for language names. Fay Freak (talk) 10:59, 17 August 2021 (UTC)

• Of course, WP's spelling is irrelevant and could be incorrect. It's just that the WT entry links to WP and could have the capital from there, where it's e.g.: "Südafrikanisches Englisch [..] ist [...]. Südafrikanisches Englisch zeichnet sich durch [..] aus [...].". But that's only at the beginning of a sentence, inside it's e.g.: "[...] Wortschatz des südafrikanischen Englisch [...] Varianten des südafrikanischen Englisch [...]".
• Official rules are (somewhat) irrelevant as well. On the one hand: reformed spelling rules of 2017/2018 which permit spellings like Goldene Hochzeit, Neues Jahr could also permit Südafrikanisches Englisch. On the other hand: Südafrikanisches Englisch could be in use, even if it it was/is not permitted.

Reformed official rules of 2018, section "2.4 Feste Verbindungen aus Adjektiv und Substantiv", § 63: "(2) Der adjektivische Bestandteil kann großgeschrieben werden [...] (2.2) in fachsprachlich oder terminologisch gebrauchten Verbindungen".

The rules add: "E2: Von der Möglichkeit, großzuschreiben, wird nicht in allen Fachsprachen Gebrauch gemacht. Zu Beispielen mit ausschließlicher Kleinschreibung siehe das Wörterverzeichnis." In the Wörterverzeichnis, there's nothing like britisches/indisches/südafrikanisches or Britisches/Indisches/Südafrikanisches Englisch, only englisch, Englisch which points to deutsch, Deutsch. There's also nothing like österreichisches/Österreiches Deutsch.

So if in a certain field, like linguistics or sociology, spellings like Südafrikanisches Englisch are (regulary/commonly) used, then they should be officially correct.

— Anyhow, WP and official rules don't matter. What matters is actual usage: is Südafrikanisches Englisch used too or is it only südafrikanisches Englisch?

BTW 1: Are spellings with lower-case like südafrikanisches Englisch SOP or not? Basically, it's only English as used in South Africa and the pecularities are encyclopaedic stuff anyway.

BTW 2: Here are some examples for Britisches Englisch, which is less common (and possibly by most speakers considered to be less correct) than britisches English but apparently does exist:

  (e-book) "kein Britisches Englisch", (e-book) "dem Britischen Englisch (BE)"
• [1] "Im Britischen Englisch", (has both spellings with B and b)
• [IMHO acceptable quality, good enough for attestation]
  [2] "des Britischen Englisch", [3] "des Britischen Englisch", [4] "das Britische Englisch", Pons (though in other works they usually have britisches Englisch) "im Britischen Englisch", from DDR.
