Capitalization[edit]

Do we really need Armageddon and armageddon it is only going to confuse people looking for the definition !! WritersCramp 12:38, 15 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

I think a case could be made that they actually have different primary senses in English (lowercase tending to mean horrible destruction, while uppercase tends to refer to the actual Biblical event). I didn't really want to get into that, which is why I just took the easy way out and made it a soft redirect. :-p
But in general, I don't think there's any getting around having pseudo-entries for all forms. I would assume there are multiple languages where the small-A form is correct and/or a distinct word, and other languages (e.g. German) where only the big-A form is correct. Even if for some reason that isn't true for this pair, it would be true for most. Which is basically why, as a dictionary of all words in all languages, we can't do redirects.
Hopefully in the future there will be a way for users who have specified (e.g.) "English" in their preferences to be hard-redirected from English alt-form entries to the main English entry. This is actually something that our downstream mirrors could implement now, since they aren't bound to the whims of the Wikimedia crew, but AFAIK none have done so. A certain amount of computational heavy lifting would be involved... -- Visviva 16:56, 15 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
