This entry was initially used for referential purposes in the study of museum artifacts. The term was coined and used by Dr. Gabriel Mayer in assessing museal qualities of objects as they are accumulated for and placed into collections of Holocaust museums.—This unsigned comment was added by Gabe010 (talkcontribs) at 19:21, 29 November 2014 (UTC).

I see usage in Google Books going back more than a century. You must be really old! ;) Chuck Entz (talk) 20:50, 29 November 2014 (UTC)
I take that back- I was looking at artifactual. Still, it goes back at least to the early 70s, and not for anything to do with the study of museum artifacts. Do you have cites for when you first used it in print? Chuck Entz (talk) 21:03, 29 November 2014 (UTC)
