Does this idiom ever occur without the "be"? A translation to German can only be done for the full verb "be at stake" (German: auf dem Spiel stehen) --Zeitlupe 04:41, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

Yes, it can be used without "be". Like "to have something at stake", or "something lies at stake", or "with my life at stake" and so on. Dart evader 05:36, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
