Any takers? The reference is to the wrong word. SemperBlotto 06:45, 10 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

This word does indeed exist. The bands I marched in used it quite a bit, but they never spelled it. Searching Google for "batterie percussion", a common phrase that would tend to eliminate other uses (such as "batterie de cuisine"), generates 211,000 hits. I have not been able to convince myself whether "battery" or "batterie" is the more prevalent spelling for this sense. At the least, we should have an "alternate spelling of" note in there somewhere, I think.
I always understood it to mean that part of the drum line that marched; that is, snare drums, tenors, bass drums and cymbals, usually, as opposed to the pit. The primary definition here is one I never heard, but it's identical to the dictionary.com one referenced and should, at the very least, be rewritten. Dvortygirl 15:05, 10 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yes, it's fine. It's normally just spelt battery, but this spelling (from French) is also used. Widsith 15:12, 10 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
