Is it more or less secular than (or synonymous with) 'benediction'? — This comment was unsigned.

First, benediction is about 40-50 times more common in US than benison (based on COCA), about 6-8 times more common than benison in the UK (based on BNC). Blessing is nearly 20 times more common than benediction in the US and 15 times more common in the UK.
Benison is most typically literary in its usage, both in the US and the UK, and has lost some of the religious connotation of the others, especially of benediction, as I see it, based on reading the usage examples in COCA and BNC. DCDuring TALK 16:43, 14 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
