Someone want to unprotect this so I can create an entry, since it is now well-attested? WordyAndNerdy (talk) 01:10, 31 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

NewsRadio origin?

[edit]

This word appears in the NewsRadio season 2 episode "Physical Graffiti" in 1996. In the episode, the character Beth claims to have invented the word. Should this be included in the entry under its origin/etymology? I don't know if it genuinely first appeared in this episode (but if so, then it is the creation of the writer, probably Josh Lieb?), but if it did, then it antedates the earliest written citation by over a decade. 2604:3D09:1F79:7F00:2939:3348:DAEB:D358 22:28, 7 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

When there's such a long gap in attestation, it's not enough that it's earlier: there should be some evidence that later usage was based on it. It's entirely possible that it was a nonce word that was forgotten, but then independantly coined again. Of course, things can certainly survive for long periods in speech without being recorded, so it can't be entirely ruled out. Chuck Entz (talk) 00:02, 8 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
