I am very interested to know if anyone has any info on the origin of the term used to describe the informal lunch meeting. I have seen the term cropping up more and more ofter recently, but I am puzzled as to the origin.

I would wager that that has to do with the brown paper bags that kids often bring their lunches to school in. At least in the north-eastern U.S. kids bring their lunches to school in brown paper bags, might be different elsewhere. - TheDaveRoss 15:21, 12 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
I came across this when I worked for Tesco - you bring your sandwiches etc (either brought from home, or bought in the canteen, and not always in an actual brown bag) to a lecture or presentation held at lunchtime.
