The definition given is straightforward, and the etymology explains the word. But the example is so distant from everyday language or usage, it's useless: "The actuating pawl is carinate." That's supposed to illustrate the word?!?!?
The example was worse than no example at all. I hope the new usage note helps a little. I looked at about 300 uses and couldn't find a single non-technical one. DCDuring TALK 01:33, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
