French pronunciation[edit]

I found this:

http://www.learncanadianfrench.com/2009/02/getting-chummy-in-french-canada.html

>>The word chum was borrowed from English a long time ago, and it's pronounced the same way. But chum doesn't just mean "boyfriend" in French Canada. It can also mean "friend." Un chum is a male friend, and une chum is a female one. You may also hear chum de fille to mean female friend.

Not sure if this can be trusted. Anatoli 04:32, 18 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Normally and with a few exceptions, I treat multi-words expression as "sum of parts" as far as pronunciations is concerned, guess not everybody agrees. On the other hand, it is relatively accurate (the word is not in [ʌ̃m] but rather something like [ɔ̃m], rhyming both with other French words in -ium like (deprecated template usage) lithium and (deprecated template usage) homme).
