Is commentary a mass noun or a count noun? Do I provide commentary or provide a commentary? DRLB 18:25, 27 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It can be either. If you are talking abstractly about the content, then it is a mass noun: "She provided commentary on the discussions". However, a specific instance or publication of that content, is countable and has a plural form: "I read five commentaries on the discussions." The latter is usually used when each instacne of commentary originates from a different source. --EncycloPetey 18:34, 27 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
