I strongly suspect that the present translation of the Spanish lemma (i. e., defender; advocate) simply is wrong. Possibly, the editor confused this word with the female form defensora of (the 'ordinary' form, which unhappily has been synonymous with 'the masculine') defensor. (The editor was blocked as a sockpuppet, and thus it is not that easy to questions to them; but the contributions were in several languages, making it probable that (s)he was not a native speaker of all of them.)

The later 'bot added dictionary link leads to a rather different explanation, which is closer to the sense in which the word seems to be used in eswp: Ministerio o ejercicio de defensor. I'm interested, since I work a bit with iwlinking w:Ombudsman related articles and categories in wp's for different languages, and the Spanish one is organised a bit differently from the English one. There are articles about persons who are or have been "defensores del pueblo" (or "defensoras del pueblo"), "people's defenders", i. e., ombudspersons; but there is also a separate category for "defensorías del pueblo". From the articles I gain the impression that the latter more concern the ombudsman offices, either in the sense of ombudsman positions, or concerning the whole institutions (including clercs and secretaries). If you're interested, you may e. g. look at members of w:es:Categoría:Defensorías del pueblo en España, as different from w:es:Categoría:Defensor del Pueblo (España). I'm trying to find out whether these defensorías ought to be linked with corresponding emwp 'ombudsman posts' articles or categories, or they represent a third kind of object.
