Etymology[edit]

It doesn't make much sense to say that Old Swedish diūr comes from Old Norse dýr, djór, though. Old Swedish is a dialect of Old Norse and the Old Norse forms mentioned are actually the Old West Norse forms (R-umlauted and not R-umlauted forms, respectively). I'll remove the Old Norse forms, the Proto-Germanic form is enough as etymology for Old Swedish diūr. (185.183.147.120 21:30, 4 May 2019 (UTC))[reply]

You're right that it isn't from "dýr", which is umlauted. But what about "djór"? Otherwise what would be the correct Old East Norse form? At any rate the word is still from Old Norse. For now I've just categorised it without giving a form. 2.207.102.127 00:52, 24 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
