Borrowing from Estonian

@Thadh, looks like that only usage as conjunction is borrowed from Estonian (the "maybe" meaning is the "original" one). What is the proper way to indicate this? Also I'm not sure the my translation for the example is good enough. Could you please check? KirillW (talk) 19:55, 8 October 2022 (UTC)

@KirillW: I would think the whole word is actually a borrowing from Estonian at some point, because you would otherwise expect ehkä (Estonian reduces the final vowel, which is followed by Ingrian reanalysing it as a reduced -i, as it often does in borrowings). It's possible that the two senses were borrowed at different stages, although I'm not sure this is the case here. In principle, you would mark "borrowings" of senses as semantic loans, cf. saksa.
