one word or two?
[edit]i remember asking long ago how the same paño that meant a napkin in Latin and gave us derivatives like pañuelo and pañal could also mean a fog. I dont remember the answer ... whether this is a merger of two words or not, but i vaguely remember imagining holding a napkin over my eyes so that i could see through, but not very clearly. Is this the actual etymology? The semantic development towards fog seems not to have happened in any other Romance languages, but on the other hand, the word covers a wide semantic range in general in other languages. —Soap— 09:47, 12 April 2023 (UTC)
