The Bacon quote is dubious. The text is "For in the excoctions and depurations of metals it is a familiar error, that to advance excoction, they augment the heate of the fornace or the quantity of the iniection." However, I'm not sure he actually wrote this sentence since it is attributed to a book titled "On Learning" by a G. Wats (a derivative of The Advancement of Learning?)
