Is this a UKism, or a commonwealthism? Also, shouldn't this be a Noun phrase? Adjective phrase? I wish this one had an etymology; to this American, it is unclear how you get to property ownership from fees. Simple or not. --Connel MacKenzie 15:20, 21 Apr 2005 (UTC)
It is certainly an English term from common law - so, my best bet is that "fee" is from the same Norman French root as "fief" and "feudal". Simple just means unrestrained. SemperBlotto 15:40, 21 Apr 2005 (UTC)
