- Cited. The citation dictionaries give for this one (from a translation of Virgil by Stanyhurst) is a bit puzzling: "Theyre labor hoat they folow: toe the flame fits gyreful awarding" (hoat = hot, toe = to, and the OED also cites this exact line for an obsolete sense of award as "furnish, give").
- "Gyreful" here doesn't correspond to anything specific in the Latin—Virgil says "flammisque sequacibus iras", literally "... and wraths with pursuing flames"—so it's hard to tell what he meant exactly, but in any case this is basically meant to be a description of fiery lightning bolts and I think "moving in gyres" is a more exact gloss than the dictionaries' "full of gyres".
