do we know why the unexpected sense arose?
[edit]is it just semantic shift? Hops are used only in beer, so it can only logically mean someone who drinks a lot of beer. Maybe through association it could mean someone who drinks a lot, but specialization towards someone who uses drugs and *not* alcohol surprises me. it reminds me a bit of the sense evolution of stoned. —Soap— 02:04, 29 December 2020 (UTC)
