s/curative/causative/ surely?

Should there be "should"?

[edit]

The current list of definitions does not include any "should" usage:

e.g. Minun kannattaa maksaa kortilla => "I should use a credit card"

As it is, the closest definition is #6, "to be worthwhile".

As a non-native speaker, I wonder if it would then be worthwhile to do any of the following:

  1. add the should definition at all? - I strongly recommend it, but what do native speakers think?
  2. add the "should" definition to #6? - or should the "to be worthwhile" definition remain on its own?
  3. move #6 to #1 - is "should" the most common use of kannattaa in Finnish?

IMO "should" here is just one translation for what is covered by #6, so it could be added as a translation. The monolingual Kielitoimiston sanakirja lists it as definition #4, below the senses we have as #1-#5. — SURJECTION / T / C / L / 12:22, 25 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
