I rewrote but still not entirely happy with the result -- as most Chinese characters are not ideograms. As far as I know [. It is, somewhat contentious, I would say, and perhaps to the extent of plays on definition in good sociologist tradition]. Most Chinese characters are actually not ideograms at least not in the strict sense. I think such is fair to say, so perhaps.
