Emergent order in multi-agent system
[edit]@N2e could you cite the sense you added? I can't find anything, seems very specific/technical. – Jberkel 13:21, 20 June 2018 (UTC)
- I think I saw it first in the work of Andrew Stirling, a UK scientist who seems to have spoken of social murmurations in groups of humans. Not finding one of his papers just now (maybe paywalled), but did find this in a presentation he made:
- [1] "culturing emergent, fractal, multipolar, murmurations of ‘knowing doings’
- Others/related I just found with "murmuration" searches in the human social context include:
- [2] -- New York Times / 2006 in an article talking about starling people, the folks who keep/care about starlings: "There was a human murmuration on the Web, especially in the dead of night, composed of bird people like a man living in a city apartment with an adult male starling named Smarty who has learned to take sharp right turns."
- [3] -- a British paper called the County Echo / 2018, in an article about a planned beach event: "IMAGINE several hundred people making a human murmuration on Newgale Beach?" and "We will also be making a short film of the murmuration, so we would like everyone to wear similar colours."
- I'll keep an eye out for more, and try to add them here as I find them. Cheers. N2e (talk) 18:24, 29 June 2018 (UTC)
- And here are several more. N2e (talk) 20:35, 31 July 2018 (UTC)
- [4] author James Dines / 2012: "the political stirrings and upheavals of the past year represent an instance of human “murmuration” that will lead to even greater epochal changes in geopolitical and economic life."
- [5] another example, from Seatlle Weekly / 2017: " inspired by animal behaviors—he combines a whale and a giant bird as the playground for Mann’s “human murmuration,” all with the goal of fostering “playful, joyful behavior.” "
- [6] Journal of the Performing Arts / 2014: Touchez – The Poetics of Turbulence : "the stolid individual drifts into the crowd and becomes part of a human murmuration"
