Orphaned with just one parent?[edit]

This is the only place I've seen any indication that the term "orphan" could refer to a person who has lost only one parent. Is there any support for such a definition? NCdave 08:26, 8 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This was news to me too when I first visited this page a while back. But it checks out. I have added a list of verified references (with links) at the bottom of the article and most of them do recognize this meaning, including the very respectable Random House Dictionary. -- WikiPedant 18:24, 8 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
