West Makian[edit]

Hi @Alexlin01, following your ping in your edit: I think this similarity is appealing, but probably coincidental. I don't know much about loans from AN languages into West Makian, but I think Wolio itself is an unlikely source for it. The AN languages of Halmahera – which all belong to the SHWNG subgroup – have reflexes of *haʀəzan like Buli olan, which is harder is relate to the West Makian form, unless l > t regularly happens in loans from SHWNG into W. Makian. –Austronesier (talk) 20:43, 28 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Austronesier: I was afraid you'd say that :( And it seems like people are still in the process of reconstructing proto-SHWNG. If you find any publications on it, please keep me in mind! Alexlin01 (talk) 20:48, 28 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Alexlin01: let's hope that this will appear soon (I also can't wait to see the book because I have a few chapters in it too LOL). The three authors are the foremost experts on SHWNG languages. Btw, did you know that a linguist is doing her PhD in Amsterdam about NH languages? –Austronesier (talk) 21:03, 28 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Austronesier: You have chapters in that? That's so cool! Do you have any idea when it'll be published? Also, I had no idea that anyone was working on NH languages these days, who's the author? Does she have any publications already, I'd love to see them! Alexlin01 (talk) 17:51, 30 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Alexlin01: Hopefully, it will appear end of this year. The dissertation project is still in its initial stages; her supervisor told me about it end of last year, and I haven't heard any news since then. But sure, when I see the first presentations or papers, I'll keep you in the loop. –Austronesier (talk) 20:17, 30 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I can't wait to see it, thanks!! Alexlin01 (talk) 20:25, 30 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
