I don't think "sludge" is the correct interpretation here. A slub is a small bump in fabric and I think the usage in the article is closer in meaning to the word "nubbin" or other small, insignificant bump or lump. Websters, Collins, etc. do not list sludge as an alternative meaning of slub. Ehgarrick (talk) 01:57, 24 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
