Talk:smuggler's bible

No dictionary that I've checked seems to be aware of the term. So far as I can tell, it was invented by Joseph McElroy for his 1966 novel. Several critics, when discussing this novel, define the phrase for their readers, as if it were an old bit of slang that their readers--all decent, law abiding citizens of course--never had the chance to encounter.

Note that one of the above cites a 1904 volume on the old-time practice of hiding contraband inside hollowed-out books, but calls them "sham books". Choor monster (talk) 15:25, 28 November 2012 (UTC)
