*Upera[edit]

How can thupër come from Porto-Albanian *Upera if the original form, still present in Gheg, is thupën? When did -r- become -n- in Albanian? Muji28 (talk) 02:43, 13 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Muji28 Where did you find the form "thupën" exactly? It is nowhere to be found online (at least with this spelling) except in a 2014 novel. [1] On the other hand Mehmet Elezi in his Fjalor i gjuhës shqipe uses thupër even for Gheg Albanian examples such as in Asht bâ për thupër, [2] and he does not mention "thupën" anywhere. [3] Çabej and Orel also do not mention any "thupën". Another example can be found in the works of Luigj Gurakuqi [4] where he uses thupur instead of an hypothetical "thupun". But the most important example i have found is in the work of Frang Bardhi (1606, Lezhë). In fact in his Dictionarium Latino-Epiroticum (1635), written in the Northern Albanian variant, you can see that the Latin lemma verber was translated with shkop, thupre, [5] while the verb verberare was translated with me thupruem. Therefore, this hypothetical "thupën" just seems a case of hyper-correction (r:n). FierakuiVërtet (talk) 13:13, 18 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Muji28 to make it more clear see bukur. This word is identical in all Albanian variants and there is no "bukun". FierakuiVërtet (talk) 13:18, 19 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
