Talk:wet one's whistle

I've read the transitive version wet someone's whistles --Backinstadiums (talk) 22:33, 10 October 2019 (UTC)
- Whistle is a reference to the throat (I think — at least some part of the talking/swallowing apparatus!) so we don't have two of them. The plural would be strange. Equinox ◑ 11:24, 12 October 2019 (UTC)
John Camden Hotten's Slang Dictionary (1873) thinks so. Equinox ◑ 22:42, 24 November 2022 (UTC)
