Melville[edit]

See my Herman Melville quotes in the "fish" discussion page. I am refraining, for the moment, from adding "Category: fish" to this page. David R. Ingham 01:21, 8 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

lack of specificity[edit]

"Any of several species of large sea mammals"? Is there any way someone who doesn't know what a whale is understand this definition?

Also, no mention of the clash between people who count dolphins as a subset of whales, and those who don't?--Dresdnhope 18:08, 2 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

IPA and audio[edit]

The audio provided includes the whine-wine merger, yet the IPA spelling is specifically "without the whine-wine merger". Perhaps a spelling WITH the merger or an audio without the merger (or both) would help, but I don't know the correct process to add this so I'll just complain about it on the talk page instead pokemonsta433

We have the IPA for both; the audio is marked as US, where a majority of speakers have the merger. There is no problem here. —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 04:21, 15 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
