Usage

[edit]

This template may be used on Wiktionary entry pages to quote from collections of Hugh Latimer's works entitled The Sermons of the Right Reverend Father in God, Master Hugh Latimer, Bishop of Worcester (1st edition, 1758, 2 volumes), and The Sermons of the Right Reverend Father in God, and Constant Martyr of Jesus Christ, Hugh Latimer, Some Time Bishop of Worcester (1824 version, 2 volumes); there are differences in the texts. The template can be used to create a link to online versions of the work at Google Books and the Internet Archive:

Parameters

[edit]

The template takes the following parameters:

  • |version=mandatory in some cases: if quoting from the 1824 version, specify |version=1824. If this parameter is omitted, the template defaults to the 1st edition (1758).
  • |1= or |volume=mandatory: the volume number quoted from in uppercase Roman numerals, either |volume=I or |volume=II.
  • |2= or |sermon= – if quoting from the main part of the work, the sermon number quoted from in uppercase Roman numerals.
  • |chapter= – the name of the chapter or sermon quoted from. If quoting from the preface of the editor or "The Life of Hugh Latimer", specify |chapter=Preface or |chapter=Life respectively.
  • |date=, or (|month= and) |year= – if the date of the sermon quoted from is known, use |date= to specify it in the format 6 June 1536 or June 6, 1536. The date will be converted from the Julian to the Gregorian calendar. If only month and year, or year alone, of the sermon is known, use |month= and |year= to specify this information.
  • |3= or |page=, or |pages=mandatory in some cases: the page number(s) quoted from in Arabic or lowercase Roman numerals, as the case may be. If quoting a range of pages, note the following:
    • Separate the first and last page number of the range with an en dash, like this: |pages=10–11 or |pages=x–xi.
    • You must also use |pageref= to indicate the page to be linked to (usually the page on which the Wiktionary entry appears).
This parameter must be specified to have the template link to an online version of the work.
  • |4=, |text=, or |passage= – the passage to be quoted.
  • |footer= – a comment on the passage quoted.
  • |brackets= – use |brackets=on to surround a quotation with brackets. This indicates that the quotation either contains a mere mention of a term (for example, "some people find the word manoeuvre hard to spell") rather than an actual use of it (for example, "we need to manoeuvre carefully to avoid causing upset"), or does not provide an actual instance of a term but provides information about related terms.
