Usage[edit]

This template may be used in Wiktionary entries to format quotations from Thomas Middleton's work The Mayor of Quinborough, also known as Hengist, King of Kent (1st edition, 1661). It can be used to create a link to an online version of the work at the Internet Archive.

Parameters[edit]

The template takes the following parameters:

  • |chapter= – if quoting from the preface, specify |chapter=Preface. Although the preface is unpaginated, the template will automatically link to the URL of the webpage on which it appears.
  • |1= or |page=; or |pages=mandatory: the page number(s) quoted from. When quoting a range of pages, note the following:
    • Separate the first and last pages of the range with an en dash, like this: |pages=10–11.
    • You must also use |pageref= to specify the page number that the template should link to (usually the page on which the Wiktionary entry appears).
This parameter must be specified to have the template determine the act (I–V) and scene numbers quoted from, and to link to the online version of the work.
  • |act=mandatory in some cases: in most cases, the template will determine the act number quoted from if the page number is specified as indicated above. It is unable to do so if page 29 is quoted from, in which case this parameter must be used to specify the act number in uppercase Roman numerals, either |act=II or |act=III.
Act I
pages 5–17
Act II
pages 18–29
Act III
pages 29–46
Act IV
pages 47–59
Act V
pages 60–76
  • |scene=mandatory in some cases: in most cases, the template will determine the scene number quoted from if the page number is specified as indicated above. It is unable to do so if page 34 is quoted from, in which case this parameter must be used to specify the scene number in lowercase Roman numerals, either |scene=ii or |scene=iii.
  • |2=, |text=, or |passage= – the passage to be quoted.
  • |footer= – a comment on the passage quoted.
  • |brackets= – use |brackets=on to surround a quotation with brackets. This indicates that the quotation either contains a mere mention of a term (for example, "some people find the word manoeuvre hard to spell") rather than an actual use of it (for example, "we need to manoeuvre carefully to avoid causing upset"), or does not provide an actual instance of a term but provides information about related terms.
