Usage
[edit]This template may be used in Wiktionary entries to format quotations from Richard Steele's work The Conscious Lovers (1723); the 1st edition (Dublin: […] A. Rhames, for J. Hyde, R. Gunne, R. Owen, E. Dobson and P. Dugan, […], 1722; →OCLC) is not currently available online. The template can be used to create a link to an online version of the work at the Internet Archive.
Parameters
[edit]The template takes the following parameters:
|chapter=
– if quoting from one of the chapters indicated in the second column of the following table, give the parameter the value indicated in the first column:
Parameter value | Result |
---|---|
Dedication | To the King |
Epilogue | Epilogue, by Mr. [Leonard] Welsted. Intended to be Spoken by Indiana. |
Preface | The Preface |
Prologue | Prologue, by Mr. Welsted. Spoken by Mr. [Robert] Wilks. |
- As the above chapters are unpaginated, use
|1=
or|page=
to specify the "page number" assigned by the Internet Archive to the URL of the webpage to be linked to. For example, if the URL ishttps://archive.org/details/consciousloversc00stee/page/n6/mode/1up
, specify|page=6
.
|1=
or|page=
, or|pages=
– mandatory: the page number(s) quoted from. If quoting a range of pages, note the following:- Separate the first and last page number of the range with an en dash, like this:
|pages=10–11
. - You must also use
|pageref=
to indicate the page to be linked to (usually the page on which the Wiktionary entry appears).
- Separate the first and last page number of the range with an en dash, like this:
- This parameter must be specified to have the template determine the act number (I–V) and scene numbers quoted from, and to link to the online version of the work.
Act I pages 1–2 |
Act II pages 23–38 |
Act III pages 39–53 |
Act IV pages 54–69 |
Act V pages 70–86 |
|scene=
– mandatory in some cases: in most cases the template will determine the scene number quoted from if the page number is specified. However, it is unable to do so if page 61, 66, 74, or 76 is quoted from, in which case the scene number must be manually specified in lowercase Roman numerals, like this:|scene=i
.|2=
,|text=
, or|passage=
– the passage to be quoted.|footer=
– a comment about the passage quoted.|brackets=
– use|brackets=on
to surround a quotation with brackets. This indicates that the quotation either contains a mere mention of a term (for example, "some people find the word manoeuvre hard to spell") rather than an actual use of it (for example, "we need to manoeuvre carefully to avoid causing upset"), or does not provide an actual instance of a term but provides information about related terms.
