Usage
[edit]This template may be used in Wiktionary entries to format quotations from Edward Fairfax's translation of Torquato Tasso's work Jerusalem Delivered, entitled Godfrey of Bulloigne, or The Recouerie of Ierusalem (1st edition, 1600). It can be used to create a link to an online version of the work at the Internet Archive.
Parameters
[edit]The template takes the following parameters:
|chapter=
– if quoting from a part of the work other than the main text, use|chapter=
to specify the name of the part (namely,|chapter=To Her High Maiestie
and|chapter=The Allegorie of the Poem
). As the "Allegorie" is unpaginated, use|2=
or|page=
to specify "page number" assigned by the Internet Archive to the URL of the webpage to be linked to. For example, if the URL ishttps://archive.org/details/godfreyofbulloig00tass_0/page/n15/mode/1up
, specify|page=15
. (The dedication is also unpaginated, but the template can determine the URL.)|1=
or|book=
– mandatory: if quoting from the main text, the book number quoted from in Arabic numerals, from|book=1
to|book=20
.|stanza=
– the stanza number quoted from in Arabic numerals.|2=
or|page=
, or|pages=
– mandatory in some cases: the page number(s) quoted from. When quoting a range of pages, note the following:- Separate the first and last pages of the range with an en dash, like this:
|pages=10–11
. - You must also use
|pageref=
to indicate the page to be linked to (usually the page on which the Wiktionary entry appears).
- Separate the first and last pages of the range with an en dash, like this:
- This parameter must be specified to have the template link to the online version of the work.
|3=
,|text=
, or|passage=
– the passage to be quoted.|footer=
– a comment on the passage quoted.|brackets=
– use|brackets=on
to surround a quotation with brackets. This indicates that the quotation either contains a mere mention of a term (for example, “some people find the word manoeuvre hard to spell”) rather than an actual use of it (for example, “we need to manoeuvre carefully to avoid causing upset”), or does not provide an actual instance of a term but provides information about related terms.
