Used in spellings of Spanish loanwords starting with es in Tagalog that substitutes the e with i, which is being discouraged by the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino since 2014 (KWF, or the Commision on the Philippine Language). This is generally used with the {{tl-superseded spelling of}}.
