ar-verb-form

This template is for displaying the headword line of Arabic verb parts, i.e. non-lemma parts of Arabic verbs (or "verb forms" in normal Wiktionary terminology; this conflicts with the normal meaning of "verb form" in Arabic, which refers to the derivational class of the verb). It displays the headword and the form class of the verb; the latter links to the appropriate section in Appendix:Arabic verbs. It also places the page in Category:Arabic verb forms.

Note that most entries for verb parts are auto-generated. For the format of a typical verb-part page, see below.

Parameters[edit]

|1= and |head2=, |head3= ...
Required. Specifies the vocalized verb part (i.e. with vowel diacritics).
Additional parameters are available if there are multiple possible vocalizations (not very common, but can occur e.g. with the jussive of geminated verbs).
|2=
Required. Form class of the verb part, a Roman numeral from I to XV or from Iq to IVq.
|tr= and |tr2=, |tr3= ...
Unnecessary and should not be provided, but present for completeness. (Specifically, it is the transliteration of the corresponding verb part. Auto-generated from the vocalized headword, and there should be no exceptional cases requiring manual transliteration, unlike for nouns.)

Examples[edit]

A typical example is {{ar-verb-form|يَقْتُلُ|I}}, which produces

يَقْتُلُ (yaqtulu) (form I)

A page with such a headword line would normally have a definition line below it using {{inflection of}}, e.g. {{inflection of|ar|قَتَلَ||3|m|s|non-past|actv|indc}} (where, despite the display, the order of arguments is first ar, second قَتَلَ, third an empty param, fourth 3), which produces

third-person masculine singular non-past active indicative of قَتَلَ (qatala)

The page يقتل might look something like this:

==Arabic==

===Etymology 1===

====Verb====
{{ar-verb-form|يَقْتُلُ|I}}

# {{inflection of|ar|قَتَلَ||3|m|s|non-past|actv|indc}}

====Verb====
{{ar-verb-form|يُقْتَلُ|I}}

# {{inflection of|ar|قَتَلَ||3|m|s|non-past|pasv|indc}}

===Etymology 2===

====Verb====
{{ar-verb-form|يُقَتِّلُ|II}}

# {{inflection of|ar|قَتَّلَ||3|m|s|non-past|actv|indc}}

====Verb====
{{ar-verb-form|يُقَتَّلُ|II}}

# {{inflection of|ar|قَتَّلَ||3|m|s|non-past|pasv|indc}}

Note how different verb parts for the same form class are grouped under the same etymology heading but those for different form classes are separated.
