Simple template intended for inclusion in etymology sections for compound words, describing a sound shift in one of the compound constituent terms as an instance of rendaku.

Usage

Parameters:

• |1= (required): The pre-rendaku romaji for the affected part of the term.
• |2= (required): The post-rendaku romaji for the affected part.
• |3= or |k= (optional): The character(s) the change pertains to.
• |sort= (optional): The sort index.

  When omitted, the sortkey is automatically retrieved by Module:Jpan-sortkey. When transcribing the hiragana for hidx, if the transcription begins with a 濁点 (dakuten, the double-dots denoting a voiced initial consonant) such as べ (be), or with a 半濁点 (handakuten, the small circle denoting “p” sounds) such as ぺ (pe), use the hidx parameter to index it under the corresponding 清音 (seion, “clear sound”, i.e. an unmodified kana) such as へ (he). When the entry begins with a dakuten kana, follow the word with one apostrophe '; when it begins with a handakuten kana, two apostrophes ''. This maintains the sort order in Category:Japanese terms with rendaku.

• |nocaps= (optional): Specify any value to output the first word ("The") in lowercase ("the").
• |nodot= (optional): Specify any value to suppress output of the final period.
• |r= (optional): Value 1 adds furigana/ruby れんだく above rendaku link.

Examples

For use inline as the latter part of a sentence, set the nocaps parameter to any value.

For use inline within a longer sentence, where this template is not at the end of the sentence, set the nodot parameter to any value.
