DST

Not everyplace has a daylight savings time beginning and ending at the same time. Most importantly, it differs by hemisphere for a potential 2-hour effective error in time difference. See w:Daylight savings time. DCDuring TALK 15:44, 11 December 2009 (UTC)

Yep. I wasn't sure how to note all this simply. Noting hemisphere would reduce the uncertainty. Would Hemisphere + timezone be enough to uniquely identify the dates of DST? --Bequw → ¢ • τ 16:43, 11 December 2009 (UTC)

Hemisphere(N/S)+timezone is not enough to determine exactly the dates (Mexico for instance differs on its dates from the US though both share time zones). Not sure what to do. --Bequw → ¢ • τ 18:54, 14 December 2009 (UTC)

The template doesn't have to do all the work. It just needs to provide 4 (?) additional parameters for optional information and display same. The info might be:

1. NoSo for no(rthern)/so(uthern) hemisphere.
2. Start for the date that DST (or equivalent) starts.
3. End for the date that DST ends.
4. Country as an alternative or supplement (for holidays) to Start/End or NoSo.

Thus users could provide useful info in the form(s) most convenient for them. The userpage viewer would be expected to convert this to time at userpage owner's location. If, at some time in the future, someone chose to get fancy with calculating time, they could do so, with reasonable accuracy, based on the info provided. Alternatively, is it possible to read the time zone information on the user computer? DCDuring TALK 19:24, 14 December 2009 (UTC)
