Preterite endings change between -te and -de depending on voicing of the final consonant before the -e in class 1 weak verbs. For example, the 1st singular past of wenne would be wende, while the same form for the verb brûke is brûkte. If we're going to have one template for class 1 weak verbs (which I agree is definitely the best scenario), then we need to find a way to fit that into the template.
