"Excessive"[edit]

Why is it called "excessive"?

The terms that are usually used in grammar books are "full" or "plene". For example "Easing Into Modern Hebrew Grammar" by Gila Freedman Cohen and Carmia Shoval, page xv.

"Excessive" is misleading because it may make people think that there are more letters than needed. You could say this about "מישמר", where "משמר" would be enough.

The sentence "Modern texts commonly use defective spellings" is misleading, too. Texts before the 1950s used defective spelling (חסר), but since then most texts use plene spelling. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 07:56, 30 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
