Template name

@Adam78 I'd like to standardize the template name since there is a plan to create more definition templates. What about D:hu:verb-hat? I modeled it after the usage templates: D = definition (similar to U = usage and R = reference), language name, part of speech and back vowel suffix. I don't know how to create a new Category:Hungarian definition templates to make it standard for all languages. If you know, please let me know. And also if you agree to this standard template name. @Panda10 It's fine with me; good idea to organize them this way. Thanks! If you want to enable the system to use autocat for definition template categories, I think you need to add the relevant lines to Module:category tree/poscatboiler/data/templates: that's what Category:Hungarian usage templates and Category:Hungarian reference templates link to at the top right corner. @Adam78 Not sure what I'm doing wrong, but the new template doesn't work. When I replace the old name with the new, it displays the template name but not the content. I may have to revert my changes. Panda10 (talk) 17:04, 6 October 2021 (UTC)

@Panda10 There seems to be some prohibition against certain initial letters, see this. B, C, D, M, N, Q, S, T, V, and W don't work as initials ("T" gets absorbed in particular), the others do. Apparently, we can choose from A, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, L, O, P, R, X, Y, and Z. (Or we can ask others at Grease Pit.) Adam78 (talk) 10:01, 7 October 2021 (UTC)

@Adam78 Thank you very much for spending time on this and figuring it out. Maybe it's for the better that we can't use D. I never liked the colons, anyway. How about these variations: hu-def-verb-hat (def=definition) or hu-def-hat? The reason for possibly including the part of speech is for the few suffixes that can create multiple PoS. But if that is not convenient, we could leave it out and include them only for those templates that are used in multi-PoS cases. Thanks for helping me think it over. @Panda10 I think it's better to leave out the PoS because it's not necessary in most cases and when it's necessary, more specific elements may be necessary. Only the shortest back-vowel form would be given at the end, right? Optimally a single consonant, as in -d, -j, -k, -m, -n, -s, -t; sometimes a single vowel: -a, -é (invariable), -i (vs -ja), -ó, -ú. Def may be understood as definite, so maybe hu-d-hat could be enough. Adam78 (talk) 21:46, 7 October 2021 (UTC)

@Panda10 Theoretically could be but I don't think we'd have so many types of templates and this "d" could be reserved for "definition" as something really basic and then whatever else comes up later, it will have a longer or full abbreviation. For that matter, "hu" could theoretically also refer to Hausa or Hunsrik or Hunnic or Hurrian and yet we still put up with "hu" (Wiktionary does, that is). What's more, we were going to call it "D:hu:…" so this "d" seemed acceptable earlier. We can just reserve "d" for definition and "def" for definite. It's for internal use only and their meaning and purpose will be illuminated with a click. Adam78 (talk) 19:34, 8 October 2021 (UTC)
